Sylvia enjoys challenging herself with difficult construction processes as it’s here, she feels the most alive. In following this characteristic,  she does encounter more cracks, but these are acceptable as she knows she’s  stretching the limits of her medium and growth. Sylvia’s process of construction uses cardboard, newspaper, and props as temporary supports.

Her career as a Landscape Architect was focused primarily on problem solving, which weaves thur all of her art & life.

Sylvia’s career as a Landscape Architect and her education at NCSU College of Design, has many influences on her sculptures. Her expertise in grading, manipulating topography, landmasses, for decades drawing in plan view, lead to an expertise in envisioning her creations. Her experience developing construction details adds to her proficiency in creating complex and unique forms.

Sylvia has exhibited her photos and sculptures at the following:

•36th Annual Sculpture in the Garden Show at UNC-CH, Botanic Garden, 2024

•Sculpture at Hart Witzen Art Gallery

•Photography at The Light Factory

•All Arts Market NoDa
